What Role Does the Paper Carrier Rope Play In the Papermaking Machine Dryer Section

Paper carrier ropes are important auxiliary devices in the dryer section of medium- and high-speed paper machines.

Their main functions are to reguide the paper sheet after a break and to transfer paper sheets during normal production. The correct use of paper carrier rope is crucial to ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of the paper machine.

A typical paper carrier system consists of components such as a paper carrier rope, guide rollers, drying cylinder rope grooves, tensioning device, and paper feeder.

The paper carrier rope always circulates along a fixed path, maintaining stable tension between the guide rollers.

Therefore, whether installing a new carrier rope or replacing an old one, it is essential to strictly follow the original paper guiding route and ensure that the rope remains within the rope grooves and guide rollers of each drying cylinder.

Any incorrect rope path, rope twisting, or uneven tension in the dryer section may lead to paper guiding failure, paper carrier rope slippage, or even equipment damage.

How to Install the Paper Carrier Rope When No Existing Rope Is Available

If there is no old rope available in the dryer section, follow these steps to install a new paper carrier rope.

Stop and lock the drying cylinder group that requires to install new paper carrier ropes, and hang up the safety sign.

Pull one end of the paper carrier rope to the inlet of the drying cylinder. Follow the paper route to thread the new paper carrier through the grooves one by one on the drying cylinder and over each guide roller, ensuring that the path is correct.

When the paper carrier rope is installed on the tensioner, please fully release the paper carrier rope tensioner (including pneumatic and manual tensioning mechanisms). Properly loop the carrier rope around the tensioning wheel to prepare for subsequent tension adjustments and splicing.

Tighten both ends of the paper carrier rope to reach the normal installation length, and cut off the excess rope at the overlapping point of both ends.

Temporarily disconnect one or two rope pulleys at the tensioner to allow space for the joint operation and ensure sufficient overlap at both ends (usually no less than 1.5 m. The specific length should be determined according to the joint method used).

Connect the two ends of the paper carrier rope according to the specified paper carrier rope splicing method. After the connection is completed, put the disassembled rope pulley back into its original position and check whether the connection is firm and straight, and whether the paper carrier rope is twisted.

Start the relevant dryer cylinders to crawl at low speed, and gradually tension the paper carrier rope manually until the tension is uniform and the path is stable. Adjust the pneumatic tensioning device to automatic mode to complete the installation of a single paper carrier rope.

Replace the Paper Carrier Rope Using the Old Existing Rope

If there is an old paper carrier rope on the dryer cylinder, when replacing it with a new rope, one end of the new rope must be securely tied to one end of the old paper carrier rope.

Start the relevant dryer cylinder group to crawl at a low speed. Personnel on the first floor control the release speed of the new carrier rope, while personnel on the second floor guide and tighten the new rope, ensuring that the old and new ropes always travel along the same path to prevent them from crossing or getting stuck.

If the old and new paper carrier ropes are found to be intertwined or stuck, stop the dryer cylinder from crawling immediately, troubleshoot the problem, and then continue.

Stop the dryer cylinders when the new paper carrier rope has completely passed through the cylinder group and reached the tensioner.

Connect the two ends of the new carrier rope according to the specified paper carrier rope splicing method.

Repeat the steps for tensioning and installing the paper carrier rope as described above.

Site Cleanup

After the paper carrier rope is replaced, the work site should be cleaned up immediately.

Stored the old paper carrier rope at the designated recycling point.

Count and put the unused new rope and tools back in their original positions to ensure the site is clean and tidy.
