The advantages and disadvantages of the two coating tools vary for different experimental scenarios and requirements.
Coating Rods
Advantages of Coating Rod:
1. Low requirements for base paper, able to adapt to relatively rough base paper.
2. Able to adapt to high solid content coating.
3. Better shielding properties.
Disadvantage of Coating Doctor Blade:
The adjustable range of coating amount is worse than that of coating blade, with a typical value of 7-11 grams.
If a grooved stick is used, it will leave many stick marks.
When the required coating amount is relatively low, the measuring rod is prone to wear.
Coating rods are divided into wire rods and thread scraping rods. Wire rod, which is formed by winding a wire around its surface; The surface of the threaded rod is not wound with threads and is processed by embossing on the surface of stainless steel. Compared to threaded rods, wire rods can achieve better results in the experimental process and are less likely to leave rod marks; And threaded rods are relatively easier to clean.
Coating Doctor Blades
Advantages of coating doctor blades:
Can achieve high smoothness and glossiness of paper.
The operability is higher than that of air knives and measuring rods, and the adjustment accuracy is also higher than the latter two.
Disadvantages of coating doctor blades:
High requirements for the base paper (good flatness, smoothness, adhesive strength, etc.)
If it is used for surface coating, there are also high requirements for lining coating (macroscopic roughness should be low, but there should be appropriate micro roughness)
This performance is not as good as the air knife and measuring rod.
Easy to produce scraper marks.
